The weather here is strangely warm so yesterday the twins stripped down to a nappy & tshirt to play in the sandpit.

3years ago (and 31/2 weeks lol!) we adopted two 6 month old cats. The charity we adopted them from had given up on them and they where designated to become farm cats. One look at them though and James was sold, I got to see them a few days after he did and having a toddler with me they where not conviced and hid away in a corner.
We signed the papers and the cats came home the weekend after. They lived in the back bedroom for 3 months they didn't come out and would scurry away into a corner when we came into the room. slowely but surely Rosie became very friendly she has become a real lapcat and will jump on james's shoulder when she comes inside. she loves to curl up in bed with us and just generally loves attention.
Rodney would accept a pat on his head but generally not much more. in the past year though he has become more & more affectionate and last night he very carefully climbed ontop of me and started purring.
I am so glad we convinced them to allow us to give these two a go!

freakish accident reported in Dutch news

For anyone who speaks Dutch here's the link
The news article reads Boy puts brothers arm in freezer.

Trough some freakaccident an 11y/o boy pulled of his 4y/o brothers arm after sneaking out of their bedroom at night. They then think its better not to wake their mother put put the arm in the freezer and go to sleep. Their mother found them the next morning and obviously took the kid to a&e where she finally found out what had happend.

How does an 11y/o accidentally pull of an arm how? and how does a 4y/o survive having an amputation wound and not bleed to death? I cant even begin to imagine what must have gone trough the mothers mind when she found the kid.
They where unable to save his arm unfortunatly.

Euan said they looked more like ghosts and asked if we could make some. a quick dig in the recylingbox found us some jars, I had some white tissuepaper that I recieved some gifts in and I made the glue.
We didn't have black cardstock for the eyes & mouths so we coloured some paper black, tore the tissuepaper into little bits and stuck everything together.
Next time though I need to remember to check if the candles fot trough as two jars had openings that are too narrow.
I'm pretty pleased with them, especially as they cost us practically nothing to make!

We made a whole bunch of ghost jars last night, I still have some jars left and Eun is insisting we make more. Except that no shop in town seems to have white tissuepaper?!?
As always I made way to much glue so I have to come up with another papermache thing to do within the next couple of weeks.

I'm preparing a batch of glue for some ghost jars Euan & I will be making tis afternoon. Thought I'd share the pattern here.
2 tablespoons of cornflour
1 tablespoon of vinegar
1/2 tablespoon of sugar
and enough water

Put everything except for the water in a pot on the stove add a littl ebit of water to get a paste.
Turn the cooker on on a low setting and very slowely add more water. It will soon start to thicken.
When you can see the track a spoon makes when you pull it trough the mixture for a few seconds before it dissapears again you've got the right consistency.
Cool it and put it in a jar.
Keeps in the fridge for awhile I've had it for 2 weeks and it was still good.

Saturday's pumpkin choosing

Euan had his heart set on that huge one, james tried to sell him the tiny one (no idea what he was thinking with that tiny thing!!) in the end we compromised with the biggest one I could carry home

Falconry event from this morning

Euan had a fantastic time! I well between running around ensuring kids where all still in the house or garden and making sure I took pictures of all the birds not so much!
here's the slideshow of pictures I took:

And there's the video a couple of posts ago that shows him holding the barn owl. We've got a little barn owl present in the freezer waiting to be dissected :)

MIM - coloured rice

what you need
What you need for coloured rice
*white rice
*mixing bowl & mixing spoon
* food colouring, I like making a few batches with different colours and mixing them when dry

white rice in its tub
Place the rice in your mixing bowl

red mixed

add a teaspoon full at a time and stir until everything is coated nicely in dye but not so much that you see it standing in the bottom of you bowl.
Now transfer to somewhere warm and stir a cople of times until it is dry. I tend to leave mine in the airing cupboard oevrnight.
This picture also taught me not to try and take a picture of something red in a white bowl. no matter how hard you try the picture sucks!

different colours mixed together
mix your different colours together (or not I guess!) and hand it to your kids with spoons cups funnels and anything else that the rice can flow trough.
Its one of those very therapeutic activities that kids can do for hours (well mine do anyway)

Different colours still in seperate containers could also be used to "paint" a picture with and probably much more!

Sorry about the awkward angle more soon!

I hate the look of this blog I just can't get t to look neat and nice. I might just have to export it and let blogger host it. it appears their are far more settings and ways to edit the layout that way.

My pattern sales on ravelry have been going nicely. FAr better than I was expecting seeing as I haven't truly advertised. Though saying that with the first few sales I bought a 3 month businesssignature package on MDC.
Euan found a nice kids dyson hoover this morning in the charity shop and the twins have been busy hoovering. Willow found several huge sticks on the way to the shops and he insisted they come with us. Its bad enough having this huge double pushchait but with a collection of sticks is was almost impossible to get trough anywhere lol!
I have been knitting pumpkins and aacorns with my scraps and they have been send to friends troughout the world.
And the sudden drop in eggs has left me looking for an eggfree pumpkin muffin recipe. 2 of the chickens are practically bold and feathers fly everywhere.
Mum got back from her holiday in the philipines and had a great time and is now gearing up for the chemo and bonemarrow transplants so I've started knitting a few chemo caps for her. no dates on the exact start of it all yet since she has to go trough scans and everything first.

I picked up two great books from the charity shops the heart of the buddha's teaching by Thay Thich Nhat Hanh, I love his writings and I have yet to find a book or dharma talk by him that doesn't inspire.
The second is called GOGO MAMA a book about 12 african women it looks really interesting. I normally don't get the time to look at books for myself, by that point the twins are bored and want to move on say YAY for me lol!

Time to put lunch on the table :)

MIM - Touchy feely box

Make It Monday - a touchy feely box

mim touchy feely box

Here's what you need

* 2 plastic washing up tubs
* 3 cable ties
* pencil to mark where you need to drill adn cut
* something that is as big as the hole you want to cut (we intended to use the peautbutter lid but found it was too small)
* a drill
* a craftknife to cut out the hole
* crochet hook
* crochet cotton/yarn of DK/worsted weight

mim touchy feely box

Mark the area you want to cut out and around this mark out where to drill the holes to crochet the "glove" onto. Then find a keen person to drill the holes for the front, you also need 3 holes on the backside of both pieces to thread the cable ties trough as hinges.

mim touchy feely box

The front of our box. you won't see the horrible edges once a sock has been crocheted around the hole.

mim touchy feely box

The back of our box, as you can see we had some trouble lining up the holes

Now just crochet trough the holes and make a sleeve about 30cms long thats it!
E and i made a touchy feely box T is tes
All you need to do now is place something inside and have everyone in the house guess what it is.
The twins aren't that into it yet but Euan loves finding out whats in the box :)
